Our lung is one of the main "motors" of our body. Yet, often it is not given due attention and care, and it remains in the background when it comes to issues of the hearth or brain. The main function of our lung is to exchange the gases between the air we breathe and our blood. It is through our lung that carbon dioxide is emptied from our body and oxygen is transported to our blood vessels. It is not widely known that the two sides of our lung are not identical to each other. The right lung has three lobes, whereas the left lung has two lobes, and an additional portion which is called the lingula which is like the middle lobe. Lung cancer is the leading type of cancer causing death among men and women of the world. It is only since the 1930s that cases of lung cancer started to increase. This is mainly due to tobacco consumption, and the much disputed pollution and smog around the globe. 90% of lung cancers are caused by smoking. As many are already aware, asbestos exposure has been linked to a number of life threatening diseases.  Most exposure related illnesses result from the inhalation of tiny asbestos particles or fibers.  One interesting study that examined the rate of disease in miners is called, "Relation between asbestosis and bronchial cancer in amphibole asbestos miners" by G K Sluis-Cremer, B N Bezuidenhout - Br J Ind Med 1989;46:537-540 - Epidemiology Research Unit, Medical Bureau of Occupational Disease, Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa.  Here is an excerpt: "Abstract - In a necropsy series of 339 amphibole asbestos miners heavy smoking, age, and the presence of asbestosis were significantly associated with the presence of bronchial cancer. Of the 35 cases of bronchial cancer, 24 were associated with asbestosis. Eleven cases of bronchial cancer occurred in men without asbestosis; all were smokers. Standardised proportional mortality rates indicated no excess of bronchial cancer in 302 exposed men without asbestosis whereas these rates were progressively raised in men with slight or moderate/severe asbestosis. Of the four exposure variables introduced separately into a logistic regression model, "years of exposure" made a small but significant contribution; "residence time" marginally failed to achieve a 5% level of significance. There is a chance for the scientists from Hamburg to receive more effective drug developed against cancer. As per the speech by Dr Ilona Schonn, Director of Cell Culture Research at Indivumed GmbH, there is the development of Pre-Clinical Trial Platform of a certain drug testing to analyze tumor tissue in patient on molecular level of the drug response. Mostly, there used liver, kidney or lung tissue slices to test metabolism and toxicity of drugs. The new trial is applied on usage of colorectal and lung cancer patients' tumor tissues. Nowadays the scientists are dumped with the issue in preclinical trials of patients' cell models as a extrapolate response. Dr. Schonn explained that about 90% of clinical tests were failed with the reason of toxicity of ineffectiveness of the examined drugs. NSCLC is the most prevalent of the two with around 80% of lung cancer cases being this type. Lung Cancer Statistics It begins when the cells of the lungs start to grow rapidly and uncontrollably which ultimately leads to the formation of a tumour. This tumour continues to grow and damages the lung cells around it. NSCLC can go unnoticed but if you know what to look out for it can be diagnosed and treated early. In this article I will be discussing three of the possible warning signs for NSCLC. 1) CHEST PAINS:- Chest pain is a possible warning sign for non-small cell lung cancer. The chest pain may be constant or sporadic. Some chest pains will only come about when you are breathing or coughing. However, other chest pains will have no apparent cause. If you notice any type of chest pain you should go and see your doctor right away. Recent large-scale prospective randomized clinical research trials have not only failed to identify a cancer prevention role (beyond a healthy balanced diet) for Vitamin E, Vitamin C, folate, and beta-carotene (a member of the Vitamin A family) supplements, but data from these trials have strongly suggested an increased risk of adverse health outcomes, at least in some sub-groups of patients, with supplements of several of these vitamins. Inflammatory Breast Cancer Causes Alas, as is typically the case with public health studies, the clinical data regarding Vitamin D is not without inconsistency, and the data on Vitamin D and cancer incidence has not been uniformly positive, either. However, multiple recent epidemiological and prospective clinical research studies have at least suggested that low levels of Vitamin D in our bodies may, in fact, be associated with a higher risk of developing certain cancers (look for a more comprehensive review of the data on Vitamin D and cancer prevention in my forthcoming book, "A Cancer Prevention Guide for the Human Race").
